The Masterchef Australia Season 12 finale was weeks ago, but I had been wanting to make a dacquoise throughout the entire season because they make it all the time in that show. The contestants somehow bang these things out in like 30 minutes, and after finally attempting one myself, I’m like HOW???? This thing took hours to make, but the techniques were relatively simple and the flavors and textures were well worth the work. I’d say if you want to give yourself a challenge and you have an entire day, this recipe definitely pays off, and you’ll have enough dessert to last you a week, so really why wouldn’t you try it?

I went to Maine (Portland is pretty cool!) over the weekend for my brother’s bachelor party. I can’t remember much of the weekend, but I do remember being generally cold. After living in California for 8 years, I am absolutely no longer acclimated to the weather in the North East. Anyway, what do I crave when it is unbearably cold outside? Soup!

It sounds nasty. It looks nasty… like… surprisingly nasty. But it's actually good. I promise.

For those of you who don't know, I am not a chef by any means. I work at a leading laser manufacturer in the semiconductor industry, which is even more boring than it sounds. Anyway, I work with a lot of mechanical engineers and software engineers from India. I asked around for everyone's opinion on the most spicy dish they could think of. Obviously I got a thousand answers because everyone I work with is from different regions within India, but I did manage to get two whole votes for a single dish: Chicken Jalfrezi!

I've always been super afraid of cooking this dish because it really is so good when done right, and it can be completely overcooked or greasy or slimy if done wrong. Also, my mother in-law will not hesitate even for a second to tell me I completely ruined the cuisine of her motherland. That being said, when she showed me how it was done, I couldn't even believe how simple it was!

It's really the honeycomb on top of this beautifully creamy confection that keeps you going in for more. They are like little jewels of happiness sprinkled throughout the dish. They give it this sweet, lingering crunch.... it just rounds out the dish and fills your mind with a sense of long forgotten completeness. The most important part of making this honeycomb is reading the entire recipe before starting, so get your readers on and enjoy!

This weekend was extremely cloudy and depressing and for most of it I was lost in a haze of unfocused drunkness, but one good thing that came out of it all was this soup that I made in an attempt to warm my frigid soul!

This past month has been insane! I turned 29, ate döner kebabs in 6 countries in 3 weeks, started a new job at my company (now I technically have 4), witnessed my buddy reach level 40 in Pokemon Go, got a soda stream, and just generally became completely overwhelmed with life. Through all of the chaos and the travelling and the pokemon and the soda, I felt this grounding presence in the back of my mind: the memory of the meal my wife made me for my birthday dinner!

Ok I think we can all agree that ketchup is just an excuse to eat a thousand french fries. But in this case the ketchup stands on its own.

In my partnership with Tabanero Hot Sauce, I decided to create a riff on the classic Israeli shakshuka, simply by adding some hot sauce to it and serving it over baked tortillas instead of pita or flat bread. I'm calling it shakshuka chilaquiles, which I know is nonsense, but I just like it, ok?

Ok ok ok sorry everyone I know you've been dying to get the recipe for the pumpkin butter on last week's basic bitch basic white bread. I'm sure it was the only thing you could think about all week, so my apologies for not posting this sooner. Sorry if anyone's productivity went down at work. Endless condolences to anyone who spent the entire second presidential debate just refreshing my blog page, hoping that I would post this recipe. I certainly hope no one's children missed meals as a result of my delay. I know you've all been on the edge of your seat waiting for this, so... here it is!

As all 15 of you know, I made way too many meatballs last week, and I ran the risk of over-salting my blood if I continued eating Swedish meatballs all week, so I replaced salt with low sodium soy sauce, and bing bang kitchen magic: spicy Thai peanut sauce meatballs in bowls of rice with pickled veggies and lime-tossed peanuts.

I found myself in Boston recently with a gluten-intolerant wife, a best friend with Celiacs, three other besties plagued by vegetarianism, and a pescetarian brother. Like, come on, seriously? So I vowed to make some food that everyone would enjoy, and thus were born these vegetarian gluten-free stuffed peppers that actually tasted awesome, I promise.

This soup will squish your brain apart. The last time I made it was for Thanksgiving in Florida. I fed it to about 20 people as the first course, and it was so good that no one remembers any of the other food that night (other than the amazing cake I made, of course).

The other day at work, as my head fell forward and jerked me momentarily into the realm of the living, i wiped the drool from my chin and deleted the 65,000 L's I had accidentally typed while my finger lay heavy on the keyboard during my surprise boredom nap, and was suddenly overcome with an urge to eat many things at once, as I usually am when I wake up.
